Roborovski's Dwarf Hamster

Other common names; roborovski, robo.

Roborovski dwarf hamsters (Phodopus roborovskii) are one of three domestic species in the genus Phodopus. They are the smallest of all dwarf hamsters, averaging between 4-5 cm (2 inches) in length when fully grown. Roborovskis have 34 chromosomes and reach sexual maturity at 4 weeks.

Roborovskis are more commonly called robos and are the fastest species of hamster. As of May 2013 Roborovskis can be found in 12 different colours.

Roborovski's are social animals living happily in same sex groups and pairs, robos can also live happily alone so an owner should not feel pressured into keeping multiple robos if they are unable to.

Although they are not aggressive roborovskis are timid animals. They are the hardest species to tame and take a lot of time, patience and dedication. For this reason (and their speedy nature) they are not good pets for children.

Robos are best suited to experienced teenage or adult owners open to a challenge.
