Tips To Stop Hamsters Biting
Note: It's important for the hamster to be tame to handling - Its not unusual for untamed hamsters to bite
Never punish a hamster that bites its often because they are scared of you and punishment will only make them more afraid.
1. Wash hands with unscented soap (or floral scented)
2. Rub hands in substrate to get a familiar scent
3. Approach the hamster from front! Never pick them up from behind or from above
4. If they are a bad biter try handling them with gloves until they get used to you not being a threat
5. If you hamster has suddenly started biting analyse any recent changes that may have upset them. ie. Moved house, new cage, new cage mate, illness, loss of a cage mate.
6. Some hamsters just don’t like to be handled for numerous reasons. If they continue to bite despite all of your efforts it may be best to accept them as a non-handleable hamster.
